What is HGV Driver Training?

HGV driver training is a course for driving an HGV. On average, your course will consist of four hours of instruction every day. On the last day of your practice, you will receive two hours of pre-test warm-up instruction before your practical driving exam, which will take up the remaining two hours of your training time.

You can operate a lorry weighing more than 7.5t and up to 32 tonnes with an HGV or LGV lorry licence. It is the same as a Class 2 lorry licence. To obtain your HGV lorry licence, you must apply to the DVLA for the provisional right to operate an HGV lorry and meet higher medical standards.
